Defsounds

Now I’ve been on Defsounds for a while now and I definitely think it is one of (if not the) best hip hop sites on the web. Or at least it used to be. Now don’t get me wrong this is not a blog that is all about hating. I just want to help restore a little bit of credibility back to the website that I think it has lost over the past few months.

Those of you who have been on this site for a while know that Jokesta and the whole Defsounds crew does a good job at supplying us with the latest in hip hop singles, videos, and news. However those of you who have been on Defsounds long enough know that something also changed with the new design of the website. The atmosphere. I used to only listen to new joints or watch new videos on Defsounds cause I new that everyone who commented said some real shit. You can go on hiphopdx and all those other sites and read their comments and they all have the same mainstream bullshit views. But the comments on Defsounds all ways brought the truth. Unfortunately, I think this has changed recently. I’m starting to see some people say the same stupid shit that is on those other websites. With people writing stupid shit on here (you know who you are) it really makes Defsounds blend in with those other sites. Now since I’ve been on here for a while I know that there will always be the “Plies tha G.O.A.T” type commentators on here. Fine. Just please don’t let them over run the site. More people need to make the quality comments that the used to on this site. Or maybe that time is over and I need to find a new quality hip hop site.

One more issue that I wanted to talk about is blogging. Don’t get me wrong I think it is a good addition to the site and it helps people voice their opinions. My issue is that people, in my opinion, should only blog about ideas related to hip hop. After all this is a hip hop site right? Don’t blog your opinions about “Forever”. That’s what the comment section is for on the song’s page. We don’t need twenty blogs about who likes it and who doesn’t. I also don’t understand why people are bloging all these funny videos. I will repeat myself, this is a hip hop site right? When I’m on here I’m thinking hip hop. If I want to watch funny videos I’ll look them up on a comedy website or youtube some shit. I mean you don’t go to Best Buy for beer so why would I go to Defsounds to watch stupid videos?

In the end I just want Defsounds to keep the real talk that I think separates it from other sites. It is a shame to me to see this site start to move in the direction of stupid comments and pointless user blogs that all the other websites have. I think the new “Defsounds Approved” section is a step in the right direction. It is stuff like that that separates Defsounds from the other sites. Maybe this will help move the site back to where it was and if it doesn’t I guess I have to start looking for a new site.
